Biography/Autobiography Reader Response Prompts

Choose two of the following prompts and respond with detail. Use at lease one direct quote from the text in one of your two responses. By the end of the book, you need to have responded to 8 different prompts.

  • In your estimation is the person about whom you are reading admirable or simply famous? Why?
  • Tell about an interesting time in his or her life. Be specific with examples. Why did you find this interesting?
  • Describe how the character's background influenced what he or she did. Give examples.
  • What personal qualities helped or hindered this person? Explain.
  • What traits in the character do you like? What traits in the character do you dislike? Explain both with examples.
  • What do you have in common with the character?
  • After reading this biography, how has your opinion of this particular person been affirmed or altered? Explain.
  • If you would have a chance to speak with the author, what questions would you aks him or her? Explain why you would want to know.
  • Choose an important word, phrase, or quote in the novel. Why did you choose this?
